How to Make Turmeric Oil
What is Turmeric Oil?
Turmeric oil is a type of essential oil that is derived from the roots of the turmeric plant. Turmeric is a spice that is commonly used in cooking, and it has a long history of use in traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Turmeric oil contains many active compounds, including curcumin, which is the main active ingredient in turmeric. Curcumin has been shown to have a wide range of health benefits, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties.
Turmeric oil is typically used topically, and it is often added to skincare products such as creams, lotions, and serums. It is believed to have several skin benefits, including reducing inflammation, improving skin tone and texture, and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Ingredients:
- Turmeric roots
- Coconut oil or Sweet almond oil
- Coarse stone
Procedure:
- Clean a coarse stone, as well as the turmeric stick. Now add a few drops of water to the stone and rub the stick over the stone.
- This forms the turmeric paste. Collect a spoonful of thick turmeric paste.
- Or use a blender to blend the roots to form a paste.
- Heat a pan on low flame and pour coconut oil into the pan. Add the collected turmeric paste to the oil and stir well so that the turmeric extracts do not settle at the bottom. you can choose any carrier oil, usually, turmeric and coconut oil are a wonderful combination.
- Allow the oil to heat at a low flame till you have fine bubbles. Switch off the flame, immerse one or two turmeric sticks in hot oil, and close the lid.
- Let the oil attain room temperature. The turmeric sticks are dropped into the oil so that the sticks spread all the turmeric content making the oil-rich turmeric beneficial.
- Note that the sticks dropped into the oil should be free from moisture else the entire prepared oil gets a fungal attack.
- Pour the oil into an air-tight bottle and preserve it from moisture and air.
- The stick can also be immersed into the bottle or can be discarded.
In addition to its skincare benefits, turmeric oil is also used in aromatherapy and massage therapy. It has a warm, spicy scent and is believed to have a calming and soothing effect on the mind and body.
It’s important to note that turmeric oil is highly concentrated and should be used with caution. It should be diluted with a carrier oil such as coconut oil or jojoba oil before applying it to the skin, and it should not be ingested or used in high concentrations. As with any essential oil, it’s important to do a patch test before using turmeric oil to check for any allergic reactions or skin irritation.
